Though Apple is known for catering to creatively focused individuals, its elegant office applications such as Pages, Numbers and Keynote are equally well-regarded for being highly intuitive and user-friendly. These are packaged into an office suite widely known as ‘iWork’, though it is now marketed as Apple Productivity Apps.
The productivity suite is targeted for home use and small business owners rather than large corporations. Though it serves up fewer features than Microsoft’s Office for Mac, the iWork suite wins a lot of points for its simple user interface, touch screen compatibility, and its recent integration into Apple’s iCloud service. Furthermore, though Microsoft Office cannot open documents created under iWork native formats (such as .pages, .numbers, and .key).
iWork works comfortably with Microsoft native documents (.doc, .xls and .ppt). iWork now is also available for iOS devices, further cementing the suite’s multi-platform and device integration strengths. iWork for iCloud also stands for its highly original interface, designed around optimal internet integration. This has a marked advantage over Google Docs and Office Online, both of which derive much of their user experience from Microsoft Office, sticking to older, tried-and-tested ideas of what constitutes a spreadsheet or a document.
